Miriam Parker MBE

Miriam is an Agricultural Scientist and Nuffield Farming Scholar, who spent a number of years in practical livestock management at the Scottish Agricultural College, Livestock Production Department, and then as Technical Director for the Humane Slaughter Association for 13 years.
Miriam’s expertise centres on training and technology transfer projects to improve animal handling and slaughter methods. Key areas are the livestock, abattoir and animal transport industries in terms of legislation, management and working practices both in the UK and abroad. She has had particular success in advising on best practice in countries such as India.
She is currently a member of the UK Farm Animal Welfare Council, on the board of Freedom Food and is on technical advisory groups for Assured British Meats and the Soil Association. In 2006 she was awarded an MBE for services to farming.
